Ma-Ha Photography | explanation of The Good and The Evil

The Good and The Evil

In everyone is good and evil. No matter how much we deny it, it is true. This photo was taken from a christian view of a persons mind.

Romans 7: 14-17 “We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer myself who do it, but it is the sin living in me.”

I wanted to create a photo that showed the good and the evil that lives in everyone. We don’t have to like one or the other. We can in deed hate one or the other but it still exists. The idea was to show both sides.

Mathew 6:24 “No one can serve two master. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

It is often said that the eye’s are the window to the soul. You read a person through the eye’s. As a photographer, if we photograph a person, it is important that the eye’s are in focus. It is what we as people need to see. It tells us what the people are thinking, what they are feeling, what their mood is. I wanted to show the soul of this person in his eyes.

The left eye represents the evil side of the person. Evil in its look and act. I had the subject with long hair and beard to show the dark side of the person. I made the background the color red which often represents evil, then added a  dead tree in the background to represent death.

The right side was the good side. Represented with the thought pose. I used the same subject with short hair and clean shaved to show the cleanness and innocence of the person. I had him dress in white, the color that showed light and life. I put the cross in the background to show the holiness of the person.
